Common questions about FakeOut.
Is FakeOut free to use?
Yes. The trending debunks feed, text fact-checks, and translation are free and unlimited. You get 1 free image check a day (reset at midnight), plus up to 5 bonus checks a day by watching a short ad. Video checks come with packs and subscriptions. The free app may show a small banner ad; Pro and Ultra drop the ads.
Do I need an account?
Not for fact-checks or translation. For images and video you sign in with Google on Android or Apple on iOS so your credits survive a reinstall or new phone. Buying a pack or subscription needs sign-in too.
How do credits work?
Text fact-checks never use image or video credits. For media we spend your free daily allowance first, then pack credits (they don't expire), then your subscription quota on Pro or Ultra. Pro includes 300 image checks and 30 video checks a month; Ultra includes 1,000 and 100.
What happens when I run out of checks?
Your free image check refills at midnight local time, and you can watch a short ad for a bonus check (up to 5 a day). Buy a Starter or Power pack, or move to Pro/Ultra if you're scanning a lot.
Can I use packs and a subscription together?
Yes. Free allowance first, then packs, then your subscription video pool. Pack credits stay in your account even with an active subscription.
How accurate is FakeOut's AI detection?
We run checks on your phone, use C2PA when the file has it, and send media to Sightengine. It's useful, not perfect. Treat the result as a hint, not proof. Heavy filters, screenshots, and odd crops can skew the score.
Can FakeOut detect images from ChatGPT, DALL-E, or Midjourney?
Usually. We catch a lot from DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and similar tools. Sometimes the app will name the generator if it can tell.
Is FakeOut available on iPhone/iOS?
Yes. Android on Google Play, iOS on the App Store. Search for FakeOut Misinfo Detector.
How does fact-checking work?
We hit Google's Fact Check Explorer and pull what publishers already published. Gemini (through OpenRouter) writes a short summary: TRUE, FALSE, MISLEADING, or PARTIAL, with source links. Unlimited for text; doesn't touch your image or video credits.
Is my data private?
We hash and compress photos and video on your phone before upload. We don't store your media permanently. Your account holds credits, purchases, and subscription status, not a log of every scan. Recent fact-checks stay on your device. More in our privacy policy.

How do refunds work?
Google Play or the App Store handle payment and refunds. If a purchase is refunded, credits tied to it can be removed under their rules. Email fakeout.io@proton.me if something looks wrong.
